3 different muscle contractions



1: concentric


2: eccentric


3: isometric

Look at the model to the right. She is performing a standard bicep curl with a neutral grip. The "curl" action is concentric, the negative ( moving the dumbell down at a controlled tempo) is eccentric. If she were to hold that dumbell right where it is in the picture that would be an isometric contraction ( a contraction without any movement but still working the muscle)

Next time you workout think of these contractions. They hold true for every movement!
