We are all witnesses...Or are we?
Watching last nights game winning shot by Lebron James last night inspired me to bring up an always amazing topic called the ZONE or the term FLOW. I find Lebron very entertaining to watch because he is the classic example of when a star makes himself a superstar by harnessing the moment, zoning in and focusing at the task at hand. You cant be afraid of the result, in fact you dont even think of any consequences, but to just live in the moment and focus and perform.
The Zone or Flow refers to a state where you are totally absorbed in what you are doing. You lose self-consciousness. The one sure way to fail at a competitve endeavor is to be concerned with how you appear to others or how you are being evaluated. Your mental energy is drawn away from the competitive endeavor and what you need to be focused upon. You want to be in the flow. Not worried about your ego. (all competitor mind games essentially try to throw you out of a flow experience)
Now the beauty of this concept (which is also living in the now, a previous post i put up) is that you dont have to be a pro athlete, you don't have to paint a masterpiece or be a mountainclimber to find flow. You can find flow in anything you do if you focus enough. You can find it at work, social gatherings, working out, intimacy, while your reading, etc....
Everytime we workout I want you to find this flow. Make every rep a quality rep, concentrate on your form, what muscles is the movement working on, where do you feel it exactly, feel your heart rate, listen to your breathing, the sound of the weights around you, the music that is playing, and most importantly do not fear the outcome or if it will hurt or if you'll feel tired. Just get into the zone and the workout will flow quickly.
So you see we all can have our own witnesses. We might not be 6 foot 9 and 270 lbs, but we all can achieve flow if we practice it enough.
