Resting Heart Rate is the number of times the heart beats in one minute. 72 beats per minute is the average for an adult. The resting heart rate is a significant and easy to measure indicator on how fit you are. Athletes and active sportsmen tend to have a lower resting heart rate than average, because of an increased heart and lung volume. They often have heart rates of about 32-45 beats per minute, while normal people stay between 60-80 beats per minute
Lance Armstrong's resting heart rate is an amazing 32 beats per minute!!!
What is yours?
Take your pulse on your wrist or neck and count it off - have many beats you feel for a 15 second period. Multiply it by 4 and there you have it = your resting heart rate. (obviosuly make sure you haven't had coffee or have been walking around your house before performing this task or your reading will be higher and inaccurate)
